Tim Tebow: NFL QB?

I'm going to start this blog with a post about Tim Tebow and his future as an NFL QB. This past Sunday Tebow went 16/29 for 308 yards passing with 1TD and 1 INT. He also rushed 10 times for 27 yards and 1 TD in a 24 - 23 win over the Houstin Texans. Those numbers look impressive for a rookie quarterback making only his second career start in the NFL against a team many picked to be a favorite in the AFC South.

But it's not the numbers that were so impressive for Tebow, it's when they happened. All late in the game and all when they were needed. Everyone knows Denver isn't going to the postseason but you would never know by the way the players played and the team celebrated during that game. They rallied around their rookie QB and he led them on two late drives in the game both resulting in TD's. No loss of composure and no shellshock on the big stage. Just ice.

And that is ultimately where Tebow is going to make his mark as pro QB. I'm sick of hearing all the so-called experts talk about arm strength and delivery and everything else they always grade the pro prospects on. If you were to listen to them, more QB's would be bust than potential all-stars. And guess what. It happens. More bust every year. Alex Smith, Matt Leinart, Jimmy Clausen, Brady Quinn, Joey Harrington, David Carr. That's just the start. Why not look at what a player brings in different aspects. Tebow can always work on his mechanics, he can study film, lift weights, condition himself, make sure his footwork gets better. There's always room for improvement, but what you can't teach is what he already has. Will, determination, the ability to make all those players around him want to win. He puts a team on his back and carries them, because losing isn't acceptable if you're Tim Tebow.

Kyle Orton was having a great season with great numbers, but the Win column wasn't filling up. Kyle Orton can't will a team to victory. The other players don't look at him and say no matter what he'll find a way to make us win this game. Tim Tebow does. When a game is on the line, he would rather die than fail his team. Because for him, it's not about Tebow, it's now about Denver. A team player, a player you can build a team around. The next Elway? I believe so. Better than Elway? With Tebow you never know.
